Hollywood has lost another great.<\/p>\n
Carole Cook died of heart failure on Wednesday in Beverly Hills, her husband, actor Tom Troupe, announced.<\/p>\n
Cook would have celebrated her 99th birthday on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The legendary entertainer’s career spanned decades. Known as Lucille Ball’s prot\u00e9g\u00e9, the Texas native moved to California at her mentor’s behest, per Variety.<\/p>\n
The \u201cI Love Lucy\u201d star even convinced the budding comedienne to change her name from Mildred to Carole.<\/p>\n
After making a cameo in a 1959 episode of Ball’s \u201cWestinghouse Desilu Playhouse,\u201d Cook appeared in 18 episodes of \u201cThe Lucy Show\u201d from 1963 to 1968, followed by five episodes of \u201cHere’s Lucy\u201d from 1969 to 1974.<\/p>\n
