{"id":184313,"date":"2023-01-12T06:01:02","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T06:01:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/judge-tells-detroit-museum-dont-move-van-gogh-painting\/"},"modified":"2023-01-12T06:01:02","modified_gmt":"2023-01-12T06:01:02","slug":"judge-tells-detroit-museum-dont-move-van-gogh-painting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/judge-tells-detroit-museum-dont-move-van-gogh-painting\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge tells Detroit museum: Don&#8217;t move van Gogh painting"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-key=\"article\">\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-46 p Component-p-0-2-37\">DETROIT (AP) \u2014 A judge on Wednesday ordered a Detroit museum to hold onto an 1888 painting by Vincent van Gogh in response to a lawsuit by its owner, who claims it has been missing for nearly six years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-46 p Component-p-0-2-37\">The painting, titled \u201cThe Novel Reader\u201d or \u201cThe Reading Lady,\u201d is part of a rare van Gogh exhibit, which ends Jan.  22 at the Detroit Institute of Arts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-46 p Component-p-0-2-37\">Brokerarte Capital Partners LLC and its sole proprietor, Gustavo Soter of Brazil, acquired the painting in 2017 for $3.7 million, but a \u201cthird party\u201d took possession of the art, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-46 p Component-p-0-2-37\">\u201cPlaintiff has not known the location of the painting,\u201d the argument states.  \u201cRecently, however, the plaintiff learned that the painting is in the DIA&#8217;s possession, on display as part of the museum&#8217;s &#8216;Van Gogh in America&#8217; exhibition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-46 p Component-p-0-2-37\">The lawsuits seek to have the painting turned over to the owner.  US District Judge George Caram Steeh barred the museum from moving it, a temporary step before a court hearing on Jan.  19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-46 p Component-p-0-2-37\">The painting is worth more than $5 million, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-46 p Component-p-0-2-37\">The museum declined to comment on the dispute but said \u201cno allegation of misconduct by the DIA has been alleged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-46 p Component-p-0-2-37\">The oil-on-canvas painting indicates that it&#8217;s on loan from a collection in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
