Clemson football wound up ranked No. 12 in the final USA TODAY Sports’ Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, and here’s a closer look at how the Tigers ended up there.<\/p>\n
The Tigers, who finished 11-3 after losing to Tennessee 31-14 to Tennessee in the Orange Bowl, received a wide range of votes from the 63 head coaches who participated in the poll, with a high of No. 7 and a low of No. 18.<\/p>\n
It marked the 12th<\/sup> consecutive year that Clemson has been ranked in the final coaches poll of the season and the 11th<\/sup> straight year that the Tigers have finished among the top 16.<\/p>\n Not surprisingly, ACC coaches tended to rank Clemson higher than coaches from other conferences, led by Pitt’s Pat Narduzzi, who placed the Tigers at No. 7 along with Chuck Martin of Miami (Ohio).<\/p>\n Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is not among the coaches poll voters.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n NOT SO PAINFUL:<\/strong>Making sense of Clemson football’s transfer portal losses \u2014 and why they don’t really sting<\/p>\n MARKED IMPROVEMENT:<\/strong>Why Clemson football defense should improve despite losing 3 ball NFL Draft prospects<\/p>\n COMING BACK:<\/strong>Clemson football defensive end Xavier Thomas says he’ll return ‘to dominate’ in 2023<\/p>\n Louisville’s Scott Satterfield, whose team lost at Clemson 31-16 on Nov. 12, was the lone coach to have Clemson at No. 8 in his final ranking.<\/p>\n Wake Forest’s Dave Clawson, who is 0-9 against Clemson, voted the Tigers ninth, as did former Clemson assistant coach Rick Stockstill, who’s the head coach at Middle Tennessee, and three others \u2013 Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald, Army’s Jeff Monken and San Jose State’s Brent Brennan.<\/p>\n
