On Saturday, Notre Dame will hold its first Junior Day of the new year. The staff will focus its attention on the class of 2024 and is set to host a variety of prospects.

As of today, all seven Notre Dame commits are expected on campus. The 6-7, 245-pounder says that Notre Dame is recruiting him at that exact position despite his massive size and tight ends coach Gerad Parker has already been in touch.

Per 247Sports, Matthews is the No. 178 overall player in the country, No. 10 tight end nationally and No. 26 recruit in the state of Georgia from the class of 2024. The composite rankings list him even higher at No. 122 overall nationally and the No. 5 tight end in the country.

Notre Dame is one of many top programs on his offer list. Others include Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, USC and Tennessee.

Irish Illustrated’s Kevin Sinclair recently wrote about Matthews.

“At six-foot-seven and nearly 250 pounds as a junior, are we sure Walter Matthews won’t grow into a tackle? While that’s often the case with those measurements, it seems Matthews is more likely to follow the Darnell Washington blueprint If you’re unfamiliar with Washington, he’s often likened to a Bubba Franks-type tight end with his towering six-foot-seven, 265-pound stature. Whether he’ll play at Georgia remains to be seen. But Notre Dame threw its name in the hat recently for the Top 150 recruit who also stars on the basketball court. Matthews is getting close to two dozen offers, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, and many others on his list.”

This fall, Matthews racked up 20 catches for 425 yards and 8 touchdowns. He had 29 yards per touchdown and 21 yards per catch. He also runs a 4.6 second 40-yard dash, posted a 37 inch vertical, 10-1 broad jump and a 4.21 second shuttle. Stay locked to Irish Illustrated for updates on how the visit goes.

On Saturday, Notre Dame will hold its first Junior Day of the new year.
