Iga Swiatek’s 2022 was just crazy. The Polish tennis player has conquered the primacy of the world rankings after dominating the season by winning two grand slams, several 1000 and amassing a streak of 37 consecutive victories.

All this allowed Swiatek to be named WTA player of the year. In an interview with Eurosport, former Swedish tennis player Mats Wilander talked about the 21-year-old player’s chances of winning more Slams, after she clinched the US Open in September last year.

Mats explained: “I think 2022 has been an important year for her, to prove to us, but also to herself, that she is the best player in the world. I think she showed at the US Open that she doesn’t necessarily have to play on clay.

She can win on hard courts, which means she can win on grass too.” The former number one in the ATP world rankings added that the only thing that can prevent Iga Swiatek from winning two or three Majors in 2023 is the Pole herself: ” The only thing standing between Iga Swiatek and winning two or three Majors in 2023 is Iga herself.

When I watch Iga Swiatek play, sometimes I see a frustration.”

Mats Wilander also said that Iga Swiatek doesn’t always believe he’s better than everyone else on the court.

Wilander believes this is due to lack of experience and will develop over time: “I think at some point you have to, and I’m not saying whether or not she is, but at some point you have to say: Okay, I’ m better than everyone else.

It’s time to stop worrying about whether I’m playing well or badly. I’m better than everyone else and I’m not losing to anyone. I think that’s the mindset that she hasn’t quite reached yet. When I watch her play, I sometimes see a frustration that I understand, but that stems from the fact that, age-wise, she’s not old enough and hasn’t been around long enough to understand that all she has to do is beat the game.

person on the other side of the network. And this will happen in Iga.” Wilander therefore nominates Swiatek as one of the main protagonists for 2023.

Iga Swiatek’s 2022 was just crazy.
