We have provided the video below for easy viewing.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"ast-oembed-container\" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"DirectStorage 1.1 with GPU Decompression: Bandwidth far exceeding that of your storage device!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uWSOw2-PGEo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The API allows the CPU to reduce the number of critical cycles needed for large tasks and decompresses game assets through &#8220;highly-parallel&#8221; graphics cards without the operating system taking over and using the processor on a higher level.  DirectStorage 1.1 by Microsoft limits the load placed on the processor when the NVMe storage requests data.  The algorithms used in the compression and decompression of assets through DirectStorage permit higher data levels to be moved above what the NVMe SSD would generally be expected to handle but can&#8217;t, and in large part, limits the time to load assets.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"story-gallery\">\n<div class=\"swiper-container\">\n<div class=\"swiper-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"swiper-slide\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn.wccftech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/BnyXcM5g4Tok5sydJjZrmC-1200-80.png.webp\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"swiper-slide\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn.wccftech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/VnKcKXQ45G67Scnws8kGuC-1200-80.png.webp\"><img srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.wccftech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/VnKcKXQ45G67Scnws8kGuC-1200-80.png.webp 2x,  https:\/\/cdn.wccftech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/VnKcKXQ45G67Scnws8kGuC-1200-80.png-728x406.webp 1x\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn.wccftech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/VnKcKXQ45G67Scnws8kGuC-1200-80.png-564x360.webp?resize=564%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Image source: Microsoft via Tom\" s=\"\" hardware.=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>PC Games Hardware took Compusemble&#8217;s benchmark test and pitted three of the top graphics cards on the market to see which handles the decompression of data the best.  The three GPUs tested by the website were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT<\/li>\n<li>Intel Arc A770<\/li>\n<li>NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All three graphics cards were paired with the Intel Core i9-12900K processor from the Alder Lake generation.  All three graphics cards processed decompression than the Intel processor by almost 2.5 times.
