WHEN Kim Kardashian debuted the new SKIMS metallic swimwear collection, fans were baffed by the abrupt change in styles.

One influencer spent $220 on three pieces from the collection, and though the swimsuits surprised her in some ways, she said they definitely fell short of the original collection in other respects.

Hope Allen, known more broadly as HopeScope, is the influencer behind YouTube and TikTok channels with a combined 3million subscribers.

Though Allen has tried both Kylie Swim and the original SKIMS swimwear launch, she was wary when she got a first look at the metallic summer collection.

In a video, Allen gave a “ruthless review” of the new pieces, and confessed that her first glance at the summer styles made her worry that she’d need to skip the brand’s launches going forward.

“We’re either going to love this, or Kim may have ruined SKIMS swim for me forever,” Allen said. She said the collection raised a lot of questions for her and was “frighteningly reminiscent” of Kylie Jenner’s swimwear collection.

From the beginning, Allen said, the new collection seemed lackluster compared to the first SKIMS swim launch – despite its shiny surfaces.

“I’m underwhelmed by the packaging again,” she said, tearing open the environmentally-friendly bag her order had shipped in. “It’s not even in a box this time.”

Allen ordered three pieces: the dipped tie bottoms, $48, the mock neck tank, $64, and the cut-out monokini, $108. She said that she was surprised there weren’t more styles to choose from.

Once she had her hands on the metallic swimwear, Allen started to worry big-time – the material was drastically different than what she’d expected.

“I really loved the fabric of the first collection and I’m so nervous that they ruined it with this sticky…” she said, trailing off. Grimacing, she headed behind a privacy partition to try on the two-piece swimsuit.

During the first SKIMS launch, Allen didn’t buy any side-tie bikini bottoms, so she was interested in seeing how they fit.

“They’re little,” she said from behind the partition, looking down at the swimwear as she put it on. “Really little is the answer.”

The mock-neck top was also different from what she expected – Allen said the material felt like latex, and it was missing coverage in a particularly sensitive area.

“What’s interesting about this top is there is no padding,” she told viewers.

When Allen revealed the bikini on camera, it had plenty of modesty in the cleavage and backside, but the blogger had to censor her nipples with a black box when she got close to the camera.

The comfort factor was also questionable, since the latex-like material seemed a little warm and snug for a day in hot sun. “I’m already sweating,” Allen said.

Next, she tried on the monokini, which had a large cutout in the midriff area.

“The nice thing to this compared to other monokinis like it is that the structure’s still there,” Allen said as she got dressed. Then, pulling it up over her chest, she said: “Maybe I spoke too soon.”

Luckily, when she emerged from the dressing area, Allen was impressed by the final result.

“I actually quite like this,” she said. Though the monokini didn’t provide as much coverage as she anticipated, there was no risk of an NSFW slip, either.

Overall, Allen declared, she liked the SKIMS metallic swimwear just fine – though it still fell short of the original launch, which hasn’t been restocked.

“I’m just asking the same questions as everybody else,” Allen said. “Why did they not restock the original stuff?”
