A faint flapping of wings?  If so, it&#8217;s probably because the world of <span><em>Game of Thrones<\/em><\/span><em> <\/em>is back, baby (or you&#8217;re about to be roasted by an impressively rendered dragon, but we sincerely hope it&#8217;s the former).  The first official trailer for <span><em>House Of The Dragon<\/em><\/span><em>, <\/em>HBO&#8217;s Targaryen-centric<em> <\/em>prequel series, <span>dropped today<\/span>, and we have some thoughts.  (That was only a <span><em>teaser<\/em> trailer that came out in May<\/span>in case you were thinking, \u201cWait, didn&#8217;t that already happen?\u201d) We&#8217;ll be recapping the show weekly once it premieres on August 21. But in the meantime, here are some initial takeaways from our first trip to King&#8217;s Landing since that <span>fateful day in 2019<\/span>.  <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sc-1bwb26k-1 kpbNNd\" id=\"h3023\">1. It&#8217;s surprisingly nice to be back in Westeros<\/h2>\n<p class=\"sc-77igqf-0 bOfvBY\">If your first reaction to the <em>ASS <\/em>prequel announcement was <em>Huh? <\/em>and then <em>I simply do not care anymore<\/em>, we can&#8217;t say we blame you.  For the rest of us, though, it feels surprisingly good to be back.  While we all know that <span>no one has a better story than Bran the Broken<\/span> (sigh), it is actually quite nice to revisit this world with a completely new cast of characters that a certain showrunning duo won&#8217;t have a chance to get their grubby hands on.  The budget is enormous (seriously, the dragons looks amazing).  And the battles are as muddy as ever.  We&#8217;re home. <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"flex-video widescreen\"><iframe data-src=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/embed\/inset\/iframe?id=youtube-video-DotnJ7tTA34&amp;start=31\" data-chomp-id=\"DotnJ7tTA34\" data-recommend-id=\"youtube:\/\/DotnJ7tTA34\" id=\"youtube-DotnJ7tTA34\" data-recommended=\"false\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" class=\"core-inset lazyload\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"webkitAllowFullScreen\" mozallowfullscreen=\"mozallowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><span data-chomp-id=\"DotnJ7tTA34\" data-recommend-id=\"youtube:\/\/DotnJ7tTA34\" id=\"youtube-DotnJ7tTA34\" data-recommended=\"false\" class=\"js_recommend\"\/><\/span><figcaption class=\"sc-1ptbguh-0 hxeMec caption\">House of the Dragon |  Official Trailer |  HBO Max<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sc-1bwb26k-1 kpbNNd\" id=\"h3024\">2. Ramin Djawadi returns with a familiar trick<\/h2>\n<p class=\"sc-77igqf-0 bOfvBY\"><em>game of Thrones <\/em>composer <span>Ramin Djawadi<\/span> is also back\u2013and he&#8217;s apparently bringing a bit of <span><em>Westworld<\/em><\/span><em> <\/em>with him.  Reminiscent of the thematically appropriate <span>instrumental covers<\/span> he became known for in his second HBO outing, this trailer features Djawadi&#8217;s orchestra-heavy cover of the Velvet Underground&#8217;s \u201cVenus In Furs.\u201d  It&#8217;s a bit of an obvious choice, as the mashup literally features beautiful women wearing furs.  On that note:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"sc-1bwb26k-1 kpbNNd\" id=\"h3025\">3. The dialogue is very on the nose<\/h3>\n<p class=\"sc-77igqf-0 bOfvBY\">A character says, \u201cKnives will come out,\u201d and the next shot is of Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) being threatened with a knife.  A different character proclaims, \u201cWar is afoot\u201d over a shot of two factions squaring off to battle.  A voiceover reminds us that \u201cyour family has dragons\u201d over footage of a scorched field.  While this does give us pause, it&#8217;s only a trailer.  And George R. R. Martin <span>praised the writers<\/span>saying that they \u201cmade good choices [and] even some improvements\u201d to his original story.  For now, we&#8217;ll just have to believe him.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sc-1bwb26k-1 kpbNNd\" id=\"h3026\">4. Everyone is <em>so<\/em> blonde<\/h2>\n<p class=\"sc-77igqf-0 bOfvBY\">  So the wigs don&#8217;t look <em>ace <\/em>much like bad <em>ASS <\/em>cosplay as everyone thought when the original promo shots were released.  But Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D&#8217;Arcy) still looks like <span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"sc-1out364-0 hMndXN sc-145m8ut-0 iBExkf js_link\" data-ga=\"[[&quot;Embedded Url&quot;,&quot;External link&quot;,&quot;https:\/\/twitter.com\/ilyclemmie\/status\/1522218643085348864&quot;,{&quot;metric25&quot;:1}]]\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ilyclemmie\/status\/1522218643085348864\" target=\"_blank\">Phoebe Bridgers, as other have pointed out<\/a><\/span>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"bxm4mm-17 bubJdb\">\n<div class=\"sc-1atgi65-0 sc-1atgi65-1 bdNdA-D js_commerce-inset-permalink\" data-inset-url=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0933D3SN6?asc_campaign=InlineMobile&amp;asc_refurl=https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/house-of-the-dragon-trailer-hbo-takeaways-1849215919&amp;asc_source=&amp;imprToken=50c1066e-e701-7a17-030&amp;ots=1&amp;slotNum=0&amp;tag=kinjaavclubpromo-20\" data-inset-category=\"CommerceInsetMobile\">\n<p>G\/O Media may get a commission<\/p>\n<div class=\"sc-1atgi65-3 hMBKyp creative-type-A\">\n<div class=\"sc-1atgi65-6 gLSKws\">\n<div class=\"sc-1atgi65-10 hherpH js_lazy-image\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-1atgi65-12 dRyRwx\">\n<p class=\"sc-1atgi65-13 iFlqWg\"><strong>clear and crisp TV<\/strong><br \/><span>The apps are intuitive, the playback is crystal clear, and the newly redesigned remote finally works like it&#8217;s supposed to: as a TV remote.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>    .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Milly Alcock as young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen House Of The Dragonscreenshot: HBO Max Can you hear that in the distance?
