The Rangers failed to appear in the quarterfinals of the Stanley Cup playoffs during his tenure, which coincided with the team&#8217;s rebuild.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline editorial float-r\" data-behavior=\"article_related\">\n<ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/a.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=\/photo\/2022\/0420\/r1002266_1296x1296_1-1.jpg&amp;w=130&amp;h=130&amp;scale=crop&amp;location=center\" width=\"65\" height=\"65\"\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1 Related<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Before that, Quinn coached the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL and spent five seasons as head coach at Boston University.  Quinn and San Jose GM Mike Grier were student-athletes at Boston University, though not at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>The Sharks fired head coach Bob Boughner and his staff on July 1. Boughner, 51, had been San Jose&#8217;s coach for parts of three seasons, amassing a 67-85-23 record and failing to make the Stanley Cup playoffs each time.<\/p>\n<p>It has been an eventful offseason for San Jose.  Grier was hired on July 5, becoming the NHL&#8217;s first Black general manager.  He replaced Doug Wilson, who had been the team&#8217;s general manager since 2003.
