Taurean Blacque, best known for his Emmy-nominated starring role as Detective Neal Washington on \u201cHill Street Blues,\u201d died Thursday. He was 82.<\/p>\n

Blacque died in Atlanta, his family confirmed to the Daily News Friday.<\/p>\n

The actor, who was born Herbert Middleton Jr. in Newark, NJ, played Detective Neal Washington on the beloved NBC cop drama, who won the best drama series Emmy four times.<\/p>\n

Blacque’s acting resume included guest roles on other classic television series. He made his TV debut on \u201cWhat’s Happening!!\u201d in 1976 and within the next two years he had guest spots on \u201cSanford and Son,\u201d \u201cCharlie’s Angels,\u201d \u201cThe Bob Newhart Show,\u201d \u201cGood Time\u201d and \u201cTaxi.\u201d Years later, he also appeared on \u201cThe Love Boat\u201d and \u201cGrowing Pains.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the big screen, Blacque had roles in \u201cRocky II\u201d and the animated Disney movie \u201cOliver & Company.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to \u201cHill Street Blues,\u201d in which Blacque starred for the entirety of its 1981-87 run, and soap opera \u201cGenerations,\u201d on which he starred as Henry Marshall from 1989 to 1990, the late actor starred on The WB’s \u201c Savannah\u201das Detective Wheeler in the latter half of the 1990s.<\/p>\n

He last appeared on screen in a 2018 episode of ABC’s \u201cKevin (Probably) Saves the World.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following \u201cHill Street Blues,\u201d Blacque was a fixture in the Atlanta Black Theater Company as well as North Carolina’s Black Theater Festival, Deadline reports.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
