3:29PM: Ashby will earn $20.5MM over the five guaranteed years of his extension, as per Joel Sherman of The New York Post (twitter link). He can more than double that total if the contract is maxed out, as Sherman notes that another $25.5MM is available if both options are exercised and Ashby hits all his escalators.

2:25PM: The Brewers have announced a five-year contract extension for young lefty Aaron Ashby, per the team. The deal runs through the 2027 season and included club options for 2028 and 2029. Ashby is represented by Turner-Gary Sports.

Regardless of the exact terms, these deals tend to be of great value for the team. With pitchers especially, there is some degree of injury risk, but given Ashby’s stuff and the value that he’s brought to the Brewers as a swingman, this extension can almost certainly be viewed as a win for the organization, President of Baseball Ops David Stearns and General Manager Matt Arnold, as well as Ashby himself, who locks in some guaranteed money and security.

Ashby, the nephew of former MBL hurler Andy Ashby, was drafted by the Brewers in the fourth round of the 2018 MLB draft coming out of Crowder College. Ashby moved quickly through the minors, winning the Brewers’ minor league Pitcher of the Year award in 2019 and making his big league debut during the 2021 season, just his third season of pitching professionally.
