Earlier this week, we got our first insight into the development of GTA 6. The game – due out in a couple of years thanks to a more tolerable working culture at developer Rockstar – will apparently plot a Bonnie & Clyde-style story in modern Miami , marking the franchise’s “first female protagonist”. Except it’s not – as pointed out by a few frustrated know-it-alls on twitter.

We’re not talking about GTA Online’s customisable silent protagonist here either! In fact, all the way back in 1997, the original GTA had four female protagonists – however, they were absent from the PS1 version of the game, which is probable the one most of you played. The characters – Divine, Katie, Mikki, and Ulrika – all featured in the original PC release, as well as the Game Boy Color port. A further two playable female characters, Gretchen and Candy, would also later star in the GBC adaptation of GTA 2.
