The Virginia Tech Hokies put an end to the Pittsburgh Panthers’ five-game winning streak with a 79-72 victory on Tuesday night. The Hokies used a strong second half to pull away from the Panthers, who had led by as many as eight points in the first half.<\/p>\n
Virginia Tech was led by guard Tyrece Radford, who scored a game-high 22 points and added seven rebounds. Radford was one of four Hokies to score in double figures, as Nahiem Alleyne added 16 points, Keve Aluma had 15, and Hunter Cattoor chipped in with 11.<\/p>\n
The Hokies shot a sizzling 57.7 percent from the field, including a blistering 66.7 percent in the second half. Virginia Tech also outrebounded the Panthers 37-27, and had a 16-10 advantage in points off turnovers.<\/p>\n
Pittsburgh was led by guard Xavier Johnson, who had 21 points and five assists. Justin Champagnie and Au’Diese Toney added 13 points apiece, but the Panthers shot just 42.3 percent from the field and committed 16 turnovers.<\/p>\n
The win was Virginia Tech’s second straight and improved their record to 10-9 overall and 5-7 in the ACC. The Hokies have now won four of their last five and are firmly in the NCAA Tournament conversation.<\/p>\n
Pittsburgh, meanwhile, had its five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 14-6 overall and 9-4 in the ACC. The Panthers will look to rebound on Saturday when they host North Carolina.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
