Daly opens up about the panic attacks he’s experienced during his time hosting NBC’s “The Voice.”<\/li>\n
“Mind Matters,” Daly’s summer-long “Today” show series, aims to normalize these conversations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Whether he’s hosting “The Voice” or the “Today” show, Carson Daly appears calm and composed in his high-pressure, high-profile career. But “things are not what they seem, and people need to know that’s OK,” he says. <\/p>\n
In reality, the TV personality, 48, has suffered from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic attacks for much of his life. Since his childhood, he has considered himself a “worrywart” after having lost his father at age 5 and has experienced panic attacks that started during his “Total Request Live” days.<\/p>\n
“You may know me from MTV or as a celebrity of whatever you think of me. You may think my life’s perfect. I’ve got kids. I always look happy on TV or when you watch me on ‘The Voice.’ But that’s just not how it works. It’s not like that, “Daly says.<\/p>\n
“On ‘The Voice,’ when I’m live on Monday nights, most of the time, my right hand is in my right pocket, and I’m literally gripping onto the flesh of my thigh because I’m waiting for a high -panic moment to pass. “<\/p>\n
