Mikaela Shiffrin has had a spectacular World Championships in \u00c5re, Sweden, and she put the finishing touches on it with a silver medal in the slalom on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old American skier was in a tight battle with Petra Vlhova of Slovakia for the gold medal, but Vlhova ultimately edged out Shiffrin by 0.08 seconds to win the event.<\/p>\n
Shiffrin was disappointed with the result, but she was still proud of her performance at the World Championships.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so proud of my performance today,\u201d Shiffrin said. \u201cI had a great run and I was so close to the gold medal. I am so happy with my silver medal and I am proud of myself for pushing myself to the limit.\u201d<\/p>\n
This was Shiffrin\u2019s fourth medal of the World Championships, having previously won gold in the giant slalom, silver in the alpine combined, and bronze in the super-G.<\/p>\n
It was a remarkable performance by Shiffrin, who was competing in her first World Championships since 2017, when she won a record-tying four gold medals.<\/p>\n
Shiffrin\u2019s four medals at this year\u2019s World Championships ties her with Tina Maze of Slovenia for the most medals won by a woman at a single World Championships.<\/p>\n
Overall, Shiffrin has now won 11 medals at the World Championships, which is the most by any female skier in history.<\/p>\n
