The XFL season kicked off with a bang, but it didn’t include former first-round NFL draft pick Paxton Lynch. The former Memphis Tiger was benched in his XFL debut, as the Seattle Dragons fell to the DC Defenders 31-19.

Lynch, who was the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, was expected to be the Dragons’ starting quarterback. He was signed by Seattle in October after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

However, it was not to be, as Lynch was benched in favor of Brandon Silvers. Silvers, who was signed by the Dragons in December, was the more efficient quarterback on the day, completing 22 of 28 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns.

Lynch, on the other hand, struggled in his brief time on the field. He completed just 8 of 11 passes for 45 yards and an interception, and was quickly pulled in favor of Silvers.

The Dragons have yet to make an official announcement on the quarterback situation, but it appears that Silvers will be the starter going forward. This could be a huge blow to Lynch, who was hoping to use the XFL as a platform to prove himself and get another shot in the NFL.

It remains to be seen if Lynch will get another chance to prove himself, but for now, he will have to watch from the sidelines.
