Chick-fil-A says the robots use artificial intelligence systems and depth-perception cameras so they can get around pedestrians, car lanes, sidewalks and more.

They’ve got a top speed of up to 15 miles per hour. The robots are only venturing about a mile from the restaurant, however.

“It’s always going to be about well-prepared, quality food,” says John Featherston, senior director of new ventures. “But where and how you consume your Chick-fil-A meal based on your daily needs is constantly changing. We want to learn how to extend our hospitality from our restaurants to meet you where you are. “

For now, the insulated robots are being tested at limited restaurants in California, Texas and Florida.

If they’re successful, there’s no timeline for when the rest of the country could see the Chick-fil-A bots.
