As spring practice nears for the Michigan Wolverines, there are many questions surrounding the interior defensive line. Will the Wolverines be able to replace the production of departed veterans Carlo Kemp and Michael Dwumfour? Will the young talent on the roster be able to step up and make an impact? How will the new defensive line coach, Shaun Nua, help the Wolverines improve on the defensive side of the ball?

Replacing the production of Kemp and Dwumfour will be no small task for the Wolverines. Both players were key cogs in the Michigan defense and their absence will be felt. Fortunately, the Wolverines have a talented group of young players ready to step up. Senior Donovan Jeter is the most experienced player at the position, and he will be asked to lead the group. Redshirt freshmen Chris Hinton, Mazi Smith, and David Ojabo will also be looked to for significant contributions. All three players have the potential to be difference makers, and they will be given the opportunity to prove themselves this spring.

The Wolverines also added a new face to the defensive line coaching staff in the form of Shaun Nua. Nua comes to Michigan after spending the last two years as the defensive line coach at Arizona State. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program and will be tasked with helping the Wolverines improve on the defensive side of the ball. Nua has a reputation for developing young talent and he will be a valuable asset to the Wolverines as they look to replace the production of Kemp and Dwumfour.

The Wolverines have a lot of questions surrounding their interior defensive line as spring practice nears. Replacing the production of Kemp and Dwumfour will be no easy feat, but the young talent on the roster is ready to step up and make an impact. With the addition of Shaun Nua to the coaching staff, the Wolverines have the pieces in place to take a big step forward on the defensive side of the ball. It will be interesting to see how the Wolverines fare this spring and whether or not they can answer the questions surrounding their interior defensive line.
