The billing system isn&#8217;t used for the sale of physical objects like groceries and clothes in apps or for peer-to-peer payments or purchases made in gambling apps.<\/p>\n<p>Google takes a 15% cut of transactions on its Play Store billing system.  The fee was <span class=\"link\" section=\"shortcodeLink\">cut from 30%<\/span> in January.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for complying with the policy is Wednesday, at which point Google said it will remove non-compliant apps the Google Play store.  Amazon has already implemented the change in version 8.58 of the Kindle app for Android, with the app displaying a notification that in-app purchases and rentals aren&#8217;t available. <\/p>\n<p>The company has also reportedly disabled in-app purchases on its Audible and Music apps, in addition to removing digital purchasing features on its Shopping and Prime Video apps.<\/p>\n<p>iPhone users are already familiar with this arrangement for the Kindle app, as Apple <span class=\"link\" section=\"shortcodeLink\">required e-reader makers to remove links<\/span> in their iOS apps that enabled people to make purchases in 2011, even if the links redirected to a website.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kindle users can&#8217;t rent or buy books or pay for Kindle Unlimited subscriptions using the e-reader&#8217;s Android app anymore, Amazon told customers in an email Tuesday.
