A day later, he was seen leaving the team&#8217;s Santa Clara facility on crutches with a brace on his left knee.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-link embed-tw\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">just saw <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/49ers?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">#49ers<\/a> TE Jordan Matthews on crutches with his left knee in a brace headed out of the team facility. <\/p>\n<p>Tough break for the converted WR who had been standing out at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/49ersCamp?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">#49ersCamp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jennifer Lee Chan (@jenniferleechan) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jenniferleechan\/status\/1554910796110450689?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">August 3, 2022<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Matthews, 30, spent seven seasons in the NFL as a wide receiver.  He caught 274 passes for 3,288 and 22 touchdowns with the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills.<\/p>\n<p>After appearing in only the first two games of the 2020 season with the 49ers, he was released.  He came back last season as a tight end.  He spent most of the season on the practice squad and appeared in just one game.<\/p>\n<h5>RELATED: Lance, 49ers&#8217; top receivers not on same page on back-to-back plays<\/h5>\n<p>Matthews got off to a good start in training camp and appeared to have a legitimate chance to win a roster spot as one of the team&#8217;s backups behind Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle.<\/p>\n<p>Charlie Woerner, the team&#8217;s top backup last season, continues to go through physical therapy after undergoing core muscle surgery in the offseason.
