The royal family has never been afraid to wear color — after all, the bold, monochromatic ensemble has been one of the Queen’s signature looks for decades. So maybe Princess Eugenie was taking a page from her beloved grandmother’s book di lei when she turned up to the national service of thanksgiving today at St Paul’s Cathedral in honor of the Queen’s 70th year di lei on the throne wearing a vibrant shade of orange.

While the Queen herself was not in attendance due to ongoing mobility issues, Eugenie brought some color to the event in an Emilia Wickstead Amila midi dress, accented by a black fascinator, clutch, and slingback heels.

The look marks the princess’s first official public appearance of the jubilee — as she, like her sister Beatrice, is not a working royal, she didn’t appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the annual Trooping the Color flyover yesterday. However, she does seem to have participated in the festivities, based on an Instagram post the social media-savvy royal shared yesterday. Though only seen from the back, Eugenie, sporting a pale blue dress (the same shade the Queen selected for the big day) and taupe fascinator, is seen alongside her husband Jack Brooksbank and their one year old son, August, as they watch the planes fly overhead.

While Eugenie is particularly close to her grandmother — she even penned a special tribute to the monarch earlier this week — it seems that she may soon be spending less time with the Queen. Recently, it was announced that Eugenie’s family of three will be living part-time in Portugal for a new job that her husband di lei Jack is taking on.
