FRIDAY PRELIMS HEAT SHEET<\/p>\n
The third day of the Mission Viejo Pro Swim kicks off this morning at 9 AM local time with a slew of World Championship team members headlining the prelim session. Sandpipers’ Claire Weinstein, fresh off of a breakout performance at Trials a month ago, comes in as the top seed in the women’s 200 free, while Trenton Julian<\/strong> comes in as the top seed on the men’s side.<\/p>\n A pair of collegians lead the field in the 200 back, as Cal undergrad Isabelle Stadden<\/strong> comes in as the top seed in the women’s 200 back, while Arizona State swimmer Jack Dolan leads the way in the men’s 200 back. Sandpipers’ Katie Grimes<\/strong>who set a new lifetime best in the 400 free last night, comes in as the top seed in the women’s 400 IM, while Frenchman and ASU superstar Leon Marchand sits as the top seed in the men’s side.<\/p>\n The session will wrap up with the 100 fly, with USC undergrad Anicka Delgado holding the top women’s seed and Julian sitting atop the men’s field.<\/p>\n Women’s 200 free<\/strong><\/p>\n Top 8 finishers:<\/em><\/p>\n A pair of Sandpiper high schoolers, Claire Weinstein and Bella Sims, took the top two seeds heading into tonight’s finals. Both Sims and Weinstein were well off of their seeds, coasting to victory in their respective heats.<\/p>\n A third high schooler, Justina Kozan, rounded out the top three after touching in 2: 01.27. Kozan is a local product of Mission Viejo, recently moving back to represent the Nadadores after a short stint with Mark Schubert’s The Swim Team.<\/p>\n Men’s 200 free<\/strong><\/p>\n Top 8 qualifiers:<\/em><\/p>\n Arizona State’s Grant House took the top seed in the men’s 200 free, winning his heat in 1: 49.90. He will be joined by an additional four Sun Devil swimmers in the A final tonight, as Arizona State placed 5 swimmers in the A final.<\/p>\n Top seed Trenton Julian<\/strong> cruised to victory in the final heat, touching in 1: 49.94 to qualify just behind House.<\/p>\n Women’s 200 back<\/strong><\/p>\n Top 8 finishers:<\/em><\/p>\n Cal undergrad Isabelle Stadden<\/strong> defended her top seed this morning, winning the final heat in 2: 12.50. She was pushed in that race by Sandpipers’ Katie Grimes<\/strong>who touched just .08 back and qualified second in 2: 12.58.<\/p>\n Utah undergrad Summer Stanfield qualified third in 2: 14.77, squarely ahead of Fishers’ JoJo Ramey, a Florida commit, who qualified fourth in 2: 15.96.<\/p>\n Men’s 200 back<\/strong><\/p>\n Top 8 finishers:<\/em><\/p>\n Harry Homans cruised to the top seed for tonight’s 200 back final in 2: 05.17, three quarters of a second clear of the field. David Cespedes Echeverri was only the only other swimmer under 2:06, qualifying second in 2: 05.86.<\/p>\n Top seed Jack Dolan, an Arizona State undergrad, qualified fourth in 2: 06.20, nearly 6 seconds off of his seed. 15 year old Luke Ellis of Sandpipers qualified for the A final, finishing in 2: 07.98.<\/p>\n Women’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n Top 8 finishers:<\/em><\/p>\n The Sandpipers continue to make their mark on this meet, with Katie Grimes<\/strong> and Bella Sims both qualifying for their second A final of the day. Grimes, who will swim this race in Budapest later this month, qualified first in 4: 43.46, almost 6 seconds clear of the field. Sims, who swam the 200 free earlier this morning, qualified second in 4: 49.35.<\/p>\n Turkish swimmer Viktoria Gunes, who is representing Unattached Mission Viejo, qualified third in 4: 52.83.<\/p>\n Men’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n Top 8 finishers:<\/em><\/p>\n Texas undergrad David Johnston, representing The Swim Team, qualified first in 4: 22.31, dominating his heat to finish nearly 6 seconds clear of the field. Sandpipers’ Ilya Kharun, an Arizona State commit, qualified second in 4: 28.10.<\/p>\n KMS ‘Ryan Healy, a high schooler out of Oklahoma, qualified 3rd in 4: 30.03 after dropping over three seconds from his lifetime best.<\/p>\n Two of Kharun’s Sandpiper teammates, Brice Barrieault and Maksim Maskalena, also qualified for the A final, finishing 6th and 7th respectively.<\/p>\n Women’s 100 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n Top 8 finishers:<\/em><\/p>\n Krystal Lara, representing Badger Swim Club, qualified first in 1: 01.19, just ahead of USC commit Justina Kozan. Kozan dropped three tenths from her seed to qualify second in 1: 01.24.<\/p>\n Arizona State undergrad Jade Foelske qualified third in 1: 01.37.<\/p>\n The field sets up for what should be a tight final this evening, with all 8 qualifiers finishing within 1 second of one another.<\/p>\n Men’s 100 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n Top 8 finishers:<\/em><\/p>\n Trenton Julian<\/strong> defended his top seed, winning the final heat in 53.04. He finished just ahead of his Cal teammate Gabriel Jett, who qualified second in 53.09.<\/p>\n Ryan Held, who has had a resurgent year since changing his training base to Arizona State, qualified third in 53.15, just ahead of Sandpipers’ Ilya Kharun. That is Kharun’s second A final of the day, coming just minutes after finishing second in the 400 IM.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n\n
