Alabama’s fall camp practices in grueling August heat might not quite be a leisurely afternoon at the country club, but the dress code is all the same.

Amid a renewed commitment on leadership and discipline, players are reminding each other to keep their shirts tucked in around the practice facility.

“Guys want to look cool with their shirt out but just tucking it in — they don’t want to do it, but I’ve got to do it because it’s discipline,” fifth-year guard Emil Ekiyor explained Friday.

The hope is the mentality will translate to the field.

“When I’m out on the field, am I going to do the right thing?” Sowing said. “Like, I’m tired as hell, but I have to make this block.”

Having a tucked-in jersey is also required under the NCAA’s college football rulebook, which states, “The jersey must be full length and tucked into the pants or made even with the waistline. No other undergarment (eg, T-shirt) shall extend below the waistline at the torso.”

“Tuck in the shirt in the weight room, on the field, everywhere,” Ekiyor said. “It’s the rules so you have to follow the rules in practice the same way it’s going to happen in the game.”

Alabama players have spoken since the spring about the need to improve the team’s internal leadership from last season, and one of the leadership council members in Henry To’o To’o said Friday that small details are important to the group’s mission.

“As a leadership group, we’ve been doing a great job of setting the standard, telling the guys the little things are going to matter — tucking your shirts in, wearing the right socks, wearing the right shoes,” the senior linebacker said. “It’s gonna take us a long way.”
