The Chicago Bulls have announced that point guard Lonzo Ball will miss the remainder of the season due to a right calf strain. Ball was injured in a game against the Atlanta Hawks on April 30 and had not played since.

The Bulls signed Ball in the offseason, hoping he would be the point guard of the future. He had mostly been a disappointment, however, averaging just 11.6 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. He was also shooting just 36.3 percent from the field and 28.3 percent from 3-point range.

Despite his struggles, Ball had been playing some of his best basketball of the season prior to the injury. He was averaging 15.5 points, 7.0 assists, and 5.5 rebounds in his last four games.

The Bulls have decided to shut Ball down for the remainder of the season in order to ensure he is fully healthy for the start of next season. It is a wise decision, as the Bulls have nothing to play for this season and can use the time to get Ball healthy and ready for next season.

This is a tough break for Ball, who will now miss out on valuable playing time and development. However, it is the right move for the Bulls, who will now be able to get a better look at their other young players and give Ball the time he needs to recover.
