The Marquette Golden Eagles are in control of the Big East title race after a thrilling victory on the road at Creighton. The Golden Eagles, who had already secured a share of the Big East regular season championship, pulled out a 79-69 victory over the Bluejays to take sole possession of first place in the conference standings.<\/p>\n
Marquette was led by Markus Howard, who scored a game-high 33 points in the win. The senior guard was nearly unstoppable, hitting 12-of-18 shots from the field, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. Howard also added four assists and four rebounds in the victory.<\/p>\n
The Golden Eagles also received key contributions from Sacar Anim and Joey Hauser. Anim finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Hauser added 10 points and eight rebounds.<\/p>\n
Marquette’s defense was also key in the victory, as the Golden Eagles held Creighton to just 37.5 percent shooting from the field and forced 14 turnovers.<\/p>\n
The win puts Marquette in the driver’s seat for the Big East regular season title. The Golden Eagles now hold a two-game lead over Creighton with just two games remaining in the regular season. Marquette will host Xavier on Saturday, and then travel to DePaul on March 6 to close out the regular season.<\/p>\n
The Golden Eagles have now won seven of their last eight games and are poised to make a deep run in the Big East tournament and beyond.
