\u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\nShe discussed the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade, and slammed the outcome.<\/p>\n
The \u201cStranger Things\u201d star also expressed how touching Thurman’s 2021 op-ed in the Washington Post was, in which she got candid about undergoing an abortion as a teen.<\/p>\n
In regards to Roe vs. Wade, Hawke told Fallon: \u201c[I] called my mom to ask for advice today about coming in to talk to you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just got into talking about the Supreme Court ruling and this essay that my mom wrote a couple months ago when they were putting these further restrictions on abortion access, sort of preceding this whole thing,\u201d she added.<\/p>\nThe \u201cStranger Things\u201d actress opened up about her mother’s abortion as well as the Supreme Court’s decision regarding Roe vs. wade.<\/figcaption>NBC\/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThurman penned an op-ed in 2021 about getting an abortion in \u201cher late teens.\u201d<\/figcaption>Corbis via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nHawke said that her parents’ lives would have been taken off course if the \u201cKill Bill\u201d actress had chosen a different path.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy mom wrote this really beautiful essay about her abortion that she got when she was really young and about how if she hadn’t had it, she wouldn’t have become the person that she had become, and I wouldn’t exist, \u201d Hawke revealed. <\/p>\n
\u201cBoth of my parents’ lives would have been derailed if she hadn’t have had access to safe and legal health care \u2014 fundamental health care,\u201d she went on.<\/p>\n\u201cMy mom wrote this really beautiful essay about her abortion that she got when she was really young and about how if she hadn’t had it, she wouldn’t have become the person that she had become, and I wouldn’t exist, \u201d Hawke said. <\/figcaption>Getty Images for Netflix<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThe New York City native explained that even though \u201cwealthy people will always be able to get abortions,\u201d the Supreme Court’s ruling would affect others’ lives who \u201cwill not only not be able to pursue their dreams, but actually lose their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I just wanted to say, f\u2013k the Supreme Court. But we’re going to keep fighting it, and we’re going to win, like our grandmothers did,\u201d Hawke declared.<\/p>\n
In the op-ed, Thurman admitted her \u201cdarkest secret,\u201d saying had an abortion in her \u201clate teens.\u201d<\/p>\n
She wrote at the time that she hoped by scribing the article, \u201csome light will shine through, reaching women and girls who might feel a shame that they can’t protect themselves from and have no agency over.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
