Kentucky forward Keion Brooks, who recently declared for the 2022 NBA Draft while still maintaining his eligibility, committed to Washington after an official visit to Montlake this past week. Brooks withdrew his name di lui from the draft nearly two weeks ago.

Because there was a recruiting dead period until May 28, the visit to Washington was Brooks’ first official visit. He since visited Arizona.

It was an interesting reversal for Brooks, who told Adam Zagoria of Zags Blog that he “has no plans to return to college” less than three weeks ago when he initially declared for the draft.

Brooks, who played the last three seasons at Kentucky, has two seasons of eligibility left if he wants to use them. He becomes the fourth college transfer to join Washington ahead of the 2022 season along with guard Noah Williams (Washington State), center Franck Kepnang (Oregon), and center Braxton Meah (Fresno State). He is also the second Kentucky transfer during the Mike Hopkins era, following guard Quade Green.

Brooks was a top-15 national recruit for La Lumiere during the 2018-19 season, pairing with former Washington F / C Isaiah Stewart to help La Lumiere to a National Championship runner-up finish. That season, Brooks averaged just over 20 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He picked Kentucky over scholarship offers from Indiana, Michigan State, North Carolina, and many others.

He played in 31 games as a freshman, averaging 4.5 points per game. His points per game jumped to 10.3 the next season despite missing the first nine games due to a leg injury. This past season he averaged 10.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in 33 games started.

When Brooks initially declared for the draft, the Wildcats quickly moved on, as they got a commitment from former Illinois State player Antonio Reeveswho plans to wear 12, Brooks’ number.

The Huskies are in a need for scoring, which Brooks can certainly provide. He scored in double-digits 17 times during the 2021-22 season, including a career-high 27 points in a win at Kansas. UW lost roughly 70 percent of their scoring from this past season, led by the 21 points per game from senior guard Terrell Brown.
