The Purdue Boilermakers women’s basketball team put on a show in front of a packed house at Mackey Arena on Sunday, defeating the Penn State Nittany Lions 86-62. <\/p>\n
The Boilermakers got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter. Purdue never looked back, leading by as many as 26 points in the first half. The Boilermakers were led by senior guard Karissa McLaughlin, who had a game-high 23 points and seven assists. Senior forward Ae\u2019Rianna Harris also had a strong performance, finishing with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks. <\/p>\n
The Boilermakers shot an impressive 50.7 percent from the field, and held the Nittany Lions to just 37.7 percent shooting. Purdue also dominated the glass, out-rebounding Penn State 42-27. <\/p>\n
The Boilermakers had a balanced attack on offense, with five players scoring in double figures. Senior forward Dominique Oden had 14 points and eight rebounds, while freshman guard Kayana Traylor added 11 points and five assists. Senior guard Tamara Farquhar and freshman guard Kayana Traylor each chipped in 10 points. <\/p>\n
Purdue’s win was their fourth consecutive victory, and it improved their record to 17-5 overall and 10-2 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers are currently tied for first place in the conference standings with Maryland and Northwestern. <\/p>\n
