Two-time PGA Tour Player of the Year Dustin Johnson officially announced his resignation from the Tour during Tuesday’s LIV Golf Invitational Series news conference. Johnson is slated to join the 48-man field for LIV Golf Invitational Series’ inaugural event at Centurion Golf Club, beginning Thursday.

Despite Johnson, 37, receiving a reported $ 125 million payday to play on the Saudi-backed golf tour, the former top-ranked golfer in the world noted that his family played a big part in his decision. He had previously stated in February that he was “fully committed” to the PGA Tour. Just a few months later, however, Johnson admitted that things had changed.

“I’m very thankful for the PGA Tour and everything that it’s done for me … This is something that I thought was best for me and my family,” said Johnson. “I’m very excited about playing. Obviously, this is the first week. It’s just something exciting, something new. I think it’s great for the game of golf.”
