{"id":41336,"date":"2022-06-08T02:38:10","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T02:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/burger-king-austrias-new-pride-whopper-is-causing-controversy\/"},"modified":"2022-06-08T02:38:10","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T02:38:10","slug":"burger-king-austrias-new-pride-whopper-is-causing-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/burger-king-austrias-new-pride-whopper-is-causing-controversy\/","title":{"rendered":"Burger King Austria&#8217;s new &#8216;Pride Whopper&#8217; is causing controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>(NEXSTAR) &#8211; Burger King Austria&#8217;s new Pride Month campaign is either top-notch or bottom-of-the-barrel, depending on who you ask.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the company&#8217;s Austrian franchisees debuted a limited-time Pride Whopper which is essentially the same as a regular Whopper, but sandwiched between two top buns or two bottom buns, rather than a top and a bottom bun, like a traditional Whopper.<\/p>\n<p>The idea of \u200b\u200busing \u201cequal buns\u201d on each Pride Whopper, according to Burger King Austria, is representative of \u201cequal love and equal rights,\u201d the company explained on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, this doesn&#8217;t just mean same-sex love,\u201d BK Austria added on its official Pride Whopper webpage.  \u201cThe PRIDE WHOPPER\u00ae breaded the same way symbolizes all possible love constellations.  Because love is love. &#8220;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n<p>\t\tSEE IT: Taco Bell of the future: New restaurant opens with 4-lane drive-thru system<br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>The campaign immediately raised eyebrows across the Internet, where some assumed Burger King was attempting to make \u201ca joke about two tops or two bottoms,\u201d as Mey Rude of Out magazine put it.  Plenty of users on social media also appeared confused as to Burger King&#8217;s intentions, a few of whom suggested that BK Austria was merely &#8220;Pride-washing&#8221; or &#8220;rainbow-washing&#8221; &#8211; ie, using Pride Month as an opportunity for marketing, rather than actually supporting a cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCapitalism, but make it woke,\u201d one user commented on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>Burger King Austria responded to users who asked whether the company was donating any of its profits to LGBTQIA + organizations, but rather reiterated that BK Austria was &#8220;official partners with Vienna Pride.&#8221;  On the official website, BK Austria added that its newest campaign aligns with its &#8220;corporate values, which stand for equal opportunities and individuality of our hundreds of employees throughout Austria all year round.&#8221;<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Others on social media simply found it funny.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cY&#8217;all are complaining but this is lowkey funny,\u201d one user wrote.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n<p>\t\tEmployees at Sonic Drive-In call police to report python in kitchen<br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Burger King Austria and Restaurant Brands International, Burger King&#8217;s parent company, did not respond to requests for further comment, although the former wrote that its Pride Whopper was created, in part, to \u201cput a smile\u201d on customers&#8217; faces.<\/p>\n<p>The Pride Whopper is available at Burger King Austria locations through June 20.
