They didn&#8217;t want him to play that part, and I had already been cast,\u201d Keaton told Entertainment Tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Keaton, who played school teacher Kay Adams-Corleone in the film opposite Pacino, said it was \u201cweird\u201d she was cast before the actor, given that the movie is based wholly around his Mafioso character.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had been cast before Al Pacino in The Godfather 1!  Is this not weird?\u201d  the Oscar-winning actress said.  \u201cWhat would &#8216;The Godfather&#8217; have been without Al Pacino?  It&#8217;s just one of those weird, unusual things in life.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption>Diane Keaton said Pacino was far from casting directors&#8217; first choice to star as Michael Corleone.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for NeueHouse<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Keaton was present during Pacino&#8217;s second audition execs ultimately \u201cgave him the job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you believe that? I didn&#8217;t know a single thing,\u201d Keaton told People. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just was going around auditioning.  I think that was amazing for me.
