BOSTON – Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry told reporters Thursday that he expects to play in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics on Friday night at TD Garden.

Curry’s availability appeared uncertain after Boston’s Al Horford landed on his leg as players scrambled for a loose ball late in the fourth quarter of Game 3, leaving Curry hobbled and shouting in pain. He played about two more minutes before head coach Steve Kerr pulled him. With his left ankle wrapped at the postgame news conference, Curry said it felt like he strained his foot di lui.

“I’m going to play,” Curry said a day later. “That’s all I know right now.”

Kerr said Thursday that he did not have updates on Curry’s foot injury, but he expects him to play in Game 4. Curry and the Warriors’ other high-usage players used the day to rest and did not practice. A league source told The Chronicle that he is not expected to need an MRI exam.

Curry suffered a similar injury March 16 when Boston’s Marcus Smart dived on Curry’s leg while going for a loose ball, which left Curry with a sprained ligament and bone bruise in his left foot.

Curry said this injury isn’t as severe as the one that caused him to miss the final 12 games of the regular season, and it is not a re-aggravation of any kind. He had a better understanding of how to manage the soreness and pain because he has been through it before. When he checked out of Wednesday’s game, he said he knew he wouldn’t need additional tests after his initial evaluation.

“This one just wasn’t as bad as that one,” Curry said. “As soon as you started to take a couple of steps, you kind of know whether you can run normal, cut normal or not. Back then, I couldn’t. Yesterday, I could. That gave me a little bit of confidence knowing it wasn’t as bad. “

Curry did not specify how much pain he’s enduring, but assured reporters that he’ll be fine Friday night. If Curry, who is averaging a Finals-best 31.3 points per game, isn’t 100% and the injury does limit his mobility, his teammates will have to do more to prevent falling into a 3-1 hole.
