She first wrote on Twitter, \u201cHorrifying news,\u201d then added: \u201cFeeling very sick right now.  Let him be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In response, a user with the handle @MeerAsifAziz1 replied: \u201cDon&#8217;t worry you are next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The tweet was later deleted, and the account was suspended by Sunday evening. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said that the authorities had received a report of an online threat against Ms.  Rowling and that an investigation was ongoing. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">On Saturday, Ms.  Rowling, 57, who wrote the award-winning \u201cHarry Potter\u201d books, assailed Twitter for allowing the social media account that lodged the threat to remain active. <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201c@TwitterSupport These are your guidelines, right?\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jk_rowling\/status\/1558531711956385792\" title=\"\" target=\"_blank\">she wrote<\/a>.  \u201cViolence: You may not threaten violence against an individual or a group of people.  We also prohibit the glory of violence\u2026\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<span class=\"css-8l6xbc evw5hdy0\">  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">On Sunday, Warner Bros.  Discovery, the entertainment company behind the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d film adaptations, offered a statement condemning the attack on Ms.  Rowling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cWe stand with her and all the authors, storytellers and creators who bravely express their creativity and opinions,\u201d the company said in a statement, which also offered condolences to Mr.  Rushdie and his family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cThe company strongly condemns any form of threat, violence or intimidation when opinions, beliefs and thoughts might differ,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Mr.  Rushdie went into hiding in 1989, shortly after the publication of his novel \u201cThe Satanic Verses.\u201d  The book, which contained fictionalized depictions of the Prophet Muhammad, offended many Muslims, and resulted in a fatwa, or religious edict, from Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the supreme leader of Iran, who urged Muslims to kill the author.  In 1998, the country&#8217;s president said Iran no longer supported the edict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">As Mr.  Rushdie prepared to speak at the Chautauqua Institution, a man, later identified by the police as Hadi Matar, 24, of New Jersey, stormed the stage and stabbed him.
