The Texas Longhorns tried to do the unthinkable and defeat the Oklahoma Sooners in the Women’s College World Series. The Sooners were an absolute juggernaut, finishing off Texas, 10-5, in Game 2 to win the national title and finish the 2022 season an absurd 59-3. Texas finished 47-22-1 on the year, and initially it looked like the Longhorns had a shot in Game 2 Thursday night. However, head coach Mike White’s squad fell short, even after taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Catcher Mary Iakopo, a key piece to the squad in 2022, drove in one run as part of a 1-for-2 night. Star second baseman Janae Jefferson went 1-for-3 but did not drive in a run. Starting pitcher Estelle Czech went 4 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (four earned).

Oklahoma was too strong in the middle innings, scoring all 10 runs between innings four and six. The Longhorns added three in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough in the end.
