The A90K comes in 48&#8243; and 42&#8243; sizes, and is intended to compete against the 2022 LG C2 OLED TV.  Sony&#8217;s TVs have traditionally been pricier, but today Amazon has dropped the price of the 48&#8243; A90K TV by about $200, making it less expensive than the LG C2 counterpart. They&#8217;re meant for closer range viewing, like in a smaller personal space or on top of your gaming desk.  To reinforce Sonys&#8217; intention of this TV being used on a tabletop, the included stand is actually adjustable: it can be mounted flush with the table surface, or it can be raised to fit a soundbar underneath.<\/p>\n<p>The A80J is foremost a gaming TV, and as such, is host to several welcome gaming-centric features.  It has two HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K @ 120Hz passthrough, a spec that the PS5, Xbox Series X, and RTX 30 series equipped PC can all support.  For PC usage, 4:4:4 chroma subsampling is available for clear and sharp text.  There&#8217;s also native variable refresh rate (VRR), which is this TV&#8217;s version of adaptive sync technology, as well as auto low latency mode (ALLM), where the TV automatically switches to a lower latency when it detects gameplay.<\/p>\n<section data-transform=\"object-feedback\"\/>\n<p>Exclusive to the Sony TV is a feature catered specifically for the PS5 console called Auto HDR Tone Mapping, which is somewhat similar to HGiG or Dolby Vision.  Basically your PS5 will be able to identify your exact TV model and apply the optimized HDR settings specific to your TV, a sort of automatic HDR color calibration if you will.  This PS5 feature is only available on the highest end Sony TV models, including this one.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s an LG WOLED panel inside the A90K, and although Sony&#8217;s image processing software differs from LG, the image quality should be comparable to LG OLED TVs.  That&#8217;s certainly a good thing.  OLED TVs are considered the best TVs you can buy right now and LG OLED TVs have been the standard for years.  Compared to the LED LCD TV, OLED offers better image quality, deeper blacks, better contrast ratio, wider color gamut, and super fast response times.  If you&#8217;re not really into gaming and simply looking for a smaller quality TV set, the A80K is still one of the best TVs on the market for the purpose, especially with the new Google smart TV interface preloaded (an improvement compared to Android TV or FireTV).<\/p>\n<p>Because this TV was released in July, we don&#8217;t expect the price to drop much further at least until Black Friday or even next year.  Most people don&#8217;t buy smaller TVs specifically for their gaming console, and so this is a niche TV, and niche products generally take longer to fall in price.
