Although Street Fighter 5 uses rollback netcode, this hasn’t always translated to the best experience for a lot of players. Needless to say, this can be seen as a pretty glaring miss considering how essential good netcode is for fighting games in this day and age.\n <\/p>\n

For those that might be worried that Street Fighter 6 will follow suit with what was established with Street Fighter 5’s online experience, there is potential good news. In an interview conducted with IGN, Takayuki Nakayama, Director of Street Fighter 6, mentioned that Capcom’s upcoming fighting game will have rollback netcode that is different than Street Fighter 5’s.<\/p>\n

“As you know, SF5 also had rollback netcode, but SF6 will have rollback netcode [and] it’s not going to be the same as what we had in SF5, “said Nakayama.<\/p>\n

With the way Nakayama responded, there’s this impression that he’s acknowledging an awareness of the fighting game community’s criticisms for SF5’s rollback netcode that came about over the years. Of course, it also feels like Nakayama is choosing his words about him very carefully in regards to what’s being said about SF5’s online.<\/p>\n

Regardless, it definitely sounds like Capcom is making a real effort to improve SF6’s online experience compared to what fans received in SF5. Nakayama would seemingly elaborate on this a little further.<\/p>\n

“This is something that they’re building from scratch, again,” continued Nakayama. “There’s a lot of effort being put into the development of the netcode.”<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

If what Nakayama says can be taken at face value, then it really sounds like there’s a lot of testing happening for whatever Capcom is developing behind closed doors.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

Evidently, it’s not just a matter of netcode engineers working on this part of the game. We’re being given the impression that the developers are making SF6’s online experience a real priority.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

“It’s not something that the netcode engineers are involved in,” stated Nakayama. “They’re actually getting people from the battle team to actually participate in that development to ensure that the experience is seamless, and it actually feels good.”<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

It’s been quite a few years since the original version of Street Fighter 5 was released about in 2016. Although Capcom has made a few attempts to improve the game’s netcode, there have been plenty of issues that have surfaced at online events and tournaments.<\/p>\n


\n <\/p>\n

We can only hope that new technologies and Capcom’s developed experiences will be enough to push Street Fighter 6’s online to an even better state.<\/p>\n
