Light&#8217;s Browne number featured a long-sleeved silhouette in a satin-like texture that caught the light, elevated with horizontal panels that created a modern take on the classic ribbed texture. However, while raising her foot in a one-legged pose, the \u201cUgly Betty\u201d star&#8217;s footwear was revealed to be black pointed-toe pumps. The ceremony, hosted by Ariana DeBose, was preceded by \u201cThe Tony Awards: Act One\u201d on Paramount +, which introduced special performances.<\/p>\n<p>The top nominations were led by \u201cA Strange Loop (11), followed by\u201c MJ \u201dand\u201c Paradise Square \u201dwith 10 nominations each,\u201c Company \u201d(9) and\u201c The Lehman Trilogy \u201d(8).  The evening included performances from all six nominated shows for Best Musical (&#8220;Six,&#8221; &#8220;Paradise Square,&#8221; &#8220;MJ,&#8221; &#8220;Mr. Saturday Night,&#8221; &#8220;Girl From the North Country&#8221; and &#8220;A Strange Loop&#8221;), as well as &#8220;Company&#8221; and &#8220;The Music Man&#8221; revivals and Billy Porter, Bernadette Peters, The New York City Gay Men&#8217;s Chorus, and the original Broadway cast of 2007&#8217;s &#8220;Spring Awakening.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><button class=\"link caas-button collapse-button\" aria-label=\"\" title=\"\" data-ylk=\"elm:readmore;slk:Story continues\">Story continues<\/button><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the program&#8217;s traditional \u201cIn Memoriam\u201d segment, the broadcast also included a tribute to the understudies and swings who worked throughout the 2021 Broadway season.
