{"id":48604,"date":"2022-06-13T12:37:21","date_gmt":"2022-06-13T12:37:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/ikea-is-considering-closing-another-store-in-china\/"},"modified":"2022-06-13T12:37:21","modified_gmt":"2022-06-13T12:37:21","slug":"ikea-is-considering-closing-another-store-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/ikea-is-considering-closing-another-store-in-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Ikea is considering closing another store in China"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"body-text\">\n<div class=\"l-container\">\n<p>The Swedish furniture and home goods chain said Monday that it was considering shutting its store in the Yangpu district of the city in response to changing shopping patterns<strong> <\/strong>during the pandemic. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In order to better meet consumers&#8217; growing demand for online consumption and services, as well as the further preference for convenient delivery accelerated during the epidemic, Ikea China will introduce customer touchpoints in the Shanghai market,&#8221; it said in a statement posted on WeChat .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However &#8230; Ikea China has conducted a comprehensive analysis of the long-term feasibility of Yangpu Store, and is considering not retaining it,&#8221; it added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"el__embedded el__embedded--fullwidth\">\n<div class=\"el__image--fullwidth js__image--fullwidth\">\n<div><noscript><img alt=\"The Ikea store in Yangpu Mall near Wujiaochang, Yangpu District, Shanghai, China, June 2, 2022.\" class=\"media__image\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn.cnn.com\/cnnnext\/dam\/assets\/220613105525-ikea-yangpu-large-169.jpg?ssl=1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_F80D0B62-1CEE-5E71-4430-5C7A9FAA9664\">Several Western companies have recently said they are reassessing their business in the world&#8217;s second largest economy, some because of the impact of the pandemic and Beijing&#8217;s strict adherence to its zero-Covid policy.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__read-all\">\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_A9F52531-38BF-C71E-C523-5C11CC0C1016\">Ikea opened its first store in mainland China in 1998, starting with Shanghai, where it now has five stores, including the one in Yangpu.<strong> <\/strong>The company currently has 37 stores in mainland China.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_BADB4917-35A1-4CC1-FF1B-5C305B9432B6\">The retailer&#8217;s expansion hit a snag earlier this year, as China&#8217;s consumer spending took a significant hit from Covid outbreaks and the stringent lockdown measures.  Shanghai, the country&#8217;s most populous metropolis with 25 million residents, had been under a strict two-month lockdown until recently.<\/div>\n<p>In April, Ikea closed its store in the southwestern city of Guiyang just two and half years<strong> <\/strong>after it opened. Last week, <span>Nike<\/span> <span>(<span class=\"inlink_chart\">NKE<\/span>)<\/span> deactivated its Run Club app in China, and said it would roll out a &#8220;localized&#8221; platform for Chinese runners in future.<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_95F30657-D1DD-6EEA-47D3-5C3B7903CDC8\">Earlier this month, <span>Amazon<\/span> <span>(<span class=\"inlink_chart\">AMZN<\/span>)<\/span> announced the closure of its Kindle bookstore in China, as well as the discontinuation of Kindle device sales to retailers. <\/div>\n<p>Airbnb also plans to take down all its listings in the country and concentrate instead on outbound travelers.
