Wells: No, Santos was not robbed of anything. The unfortunate clash of heads in the third round certainly affected her performance di lei in the final rounds, but you have to credit Shevchenko for excelling late as a champion should. The fight did enter the final round tied on my scorecard, which acknowledges that this was a close fight coming down to the wire, but Shevchenko sealed the deal and shut out her opponent in the final round.

The second round seems to be the round most people were hung up on, but watch it again closely. Shevchenko did more from her back in that round than Santos did on top. Just because a fighter is on their back, doesn’t automatically mean they are losing the round. Overall, I found this a pretty easy fight to score when looking at it round by round.

The reaction is just another example of some people not understanding how to properly judge a fight. I will say that Shevchenko being awarded the first round by judge Werner is wild, so if anything, Santos was “robbed” of a 10-9 score in that round. However, if Werner went the other way, his scorecard di lui would have still read 48-47 in Shevchenko’s favor. In my opinion, Judge Hughes turned in the most accurate scorecard here, which matches how I saw the fight.

Wells’ overall score: 48-47 Shevchenko

They have a: Although I scored the fight for Santos, I don’t like using the word robbery simply because it was a close fight. It all came down to Round 3 in my opinion which could have gone either way. Shevchenko won more of the third round than Santos did, but overall, I felt Santos threatening with the rear-naked choke to close out the round was more impactful than what Shevchenko landed on his feet. So based on that, I gave Santos the first three rounds and Shevchenko the final two.

According to the judges, Round 2 was the debatable one, with two judges scoring it in favor of Shevchenko. Although Round 2 was also close, I thought Santos’ ground control di lei was enough to award her the round, despite not inflicting any damage or threat.

Hannoun’s overall score: 48-47 Santos

Segura: No robbery here. Santos pocketed two rounds at the start and Shevchenko pocketed two of her own di lei at the end. There’s no question about that. There is a question though about the third. It was close. I think Santos looked better and clearly had the better positioning, but Shevchenko edged her out slightly while they were exchanging on her feet. I think if Santos would’ve added ground-and-pound to her control di lei, aka damage, it would’ve been a clear round for her.

Segura’s overall score: 48-47 Santos
