While the FCC&#8217;s newest certification documents (first <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-f57adcff-38fb-4cde-b4e9-9c63cd538b53 -->reported by 9to5Google) appear to set a bunch of details on three <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-d75c9810-015a-4780-9c7b-e137aa05ebd9 -->Samsung products carrying model numbers SM-R900, SM-R910, and SM-R920 firmly in stone, only one of these could ever be described as juicy &#8230; or remotely interesting.<\/div>\n<h2>Smartwatches need fast charging too<\/h2>\n<div>65W.  120W.  150W.  200W.  Even with absolutely no context, those numbers are likely to ring a bell or two for many Android phone users right now.  But while (certain) handset manufacturers have made great efforts to <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-0223f225-c64f-4afd-93cf-cb721a10c141 -->reach fast charging milestone after <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-002381a9-135b-4292-9873-ffdd0df7ce65 -->milestone first, making a lot of fuss over every new achievement, most smartwatch vendors seem uninterested in advancing that particular field of that particular market.<\/div>\n<div>Many of the same companies are of course involved in both industries, including Samsung.  With the <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-0dcf1ce9-6a5b-4649-a03c-d65615ead3f9 -->Galaxy S22 Ultra several steps behind the competition at charging speeds of up to 45 watts, we&#8217;re almost surprised to see the Galaxy Watch 5 family confirmed as carrying 10W charging technology.<\/div>\n<div><!-- ImageTagInstance gallery-4183fa8d-7076-43e1-8ede-6d24ded3e682 --><\/p>\n<div id=\"gallery-4183fa8d-7076-43e1-8ede-6d24ded3e682\" class=\"single-image-container\" style=\"margin: 24px auto; width: 100%\">\n<div class=\"gallery-item\">\n<picture style=\"padding-top: 66.666666666667%\"><source media=\"(max-width: 350px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/m-cdn.phonearena.com\/images\/articles\/389929-350\/Apple-Watch-Series-7-review.jpg\"><source media=\"(min-width: 351px) and (max-width: 500px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/m-cdn.phonearena.com\/images\/articles\/389929-500\/Apple-Watch-Series-7-review.jpg\"><source media=\"(min-width: 501px) and (max-width: 800px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/m-cdn.phonearena.com\/images\/articles\/389929-800\/Apple-Watch-Series-7-review.jpg\"><noscript><img src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/m-cdn.phonearena.com\/images\/articles\/389929-image\/Apple-Watch-Series-7-review.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"The Galaxy Watch 5 could catch up to the Apple Watch Series 7 (pictured here).  - Big Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 upgrade over Watch 4 confirmed in new regulatory docs\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><\/noscript><\/source><\/source><\/source><\/picture>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Galaxy Watch 5 could catch up to the Apple Watch Series 7 (pictured here).<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>That&#8217;s a pleasant surprise, mind you, as last year&#8217;s <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-371ca227-d755-4c81-aed6-3c29565318b9 -->Galaxy Watch 4 and <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-8092eb4b-6022-4536-9493-a664a87c1174 -->Watch 4 Classic are barely able to get from 0 to 100 percent battery capacity in around two hours with the same 5W charging limitation between them.<\/div>\n<div>In contrast, the <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-064cf419-8600-4b25-88e0-1e167da5d49b -->Apple Watch Series 7 needs roughly 45 minutes to get its empty tank 80 percent or so full, which is something we can probably expect the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro to match if not exceed in just a couple of months.<\/div>\n<div>Fast charging was one of the Series 7&#8217;s biggest advertised selling point and key upgrade over 2020&#8217;s <!-- HTMLTagInstance html-tag-7250abbb-8475-4b0d-9836-85a3b3b9eba3 -->Apple Watch Series 6, which may have convinced Samsung to take this feature seriously.<\/div>\n<h2>A charging speed upgrade goes great with a bigger battery<\/h2>\n<div>Aaaand it looks like that&#8217;s exactly what Galaxy Watch 5 buyers will be getting in August.
