Mekhi Becton is back with the New York Jets in Florham Park

The New York Jets have begun their three-day mandatory minicamp for veteran players, and the sweetest sight in the building for Jets fans is one that’s impossible to miss: the 6-foot-7 frame of offensive tackle Mekhi Becton.

As expected, Becton has made the trip to Florham Park, New Jersey to attend the mandatory proceedings.

Courtesy of SNY, seen below is a video of Becton towering over his teammates on the practice field. (The 5-foot-9 DJ Reed gets caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.)

Becton was notably absent from the Jets’ voluntary OTAs period, which ran from May 23 to June 10. He remained in Dallas, Texas, working with his trainer Duke Manyweather and accompanying his fiancee for the birth of his first child.

DJ Bien-Aime of the New York Daily News reported on June 6 that Becton was expected to be in New Jersey for mandatory minicamp. However, Rich Cimini of ESPN reported on June 12 that, while Becton was expected to attend, he was not expected to participate in practices while he continues rehabbing from his knee injury.

As anticipated, Becton is not participating in team drills. He’s working on the side with trainers.

Mekhi Becton is on the practice field, but he’s not participating in the team stretch. He’s on a remote field, working with the trainers. This is not a surprise. There was no chance he was going to practice. #Jets

Becton can be seen in the rehab area with edge rusher Carl Lawson and others in this video shared by Jets X-Factor’s Robby Sabo from Florham Park.

Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur praised Becton while speaking to the media on the opening day of mandatory minicamp.

“He’s a very large man that is hard to run around in the pass game,” LaFleur said. “And then he’s got, for being such a big man, he’s got a great first step to get on players and move them in the run game … Our scheme or any other scheme, he’s got the talent, because of that elite god-given size and strength that he has. “
