Patrick Cantlay will head into the final round of the BMW Championship with the lead, just as he did a year ago en route to the FedEx Cup title. He finds his name alone at the top of the leaderboard at 12 under, but is not without serious contenders beneath. Cantlay’s good friend and playing partner the first three days at Wilmington Country Club, Xander Schauffele, may prove to be the worthiest of them all as he sits only one stroke off the lead at 11 under alongside Scott Stallings.

Eyes will be drawn to the final pairing of Cantlay and Schauffele, but if they are to slip up, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will be right there. Sitting at 10 under, the four-time winner this season has carded three straight rounds in the 60s and is intent on returning to the top spot of the FedEx Cup standings ahead of next week’s season finale at East Lake.

While Scheffler is set to make the trip to Atlanta regardless of his finish, Adam Scott is in the awkward position of being one swing away from winning the BMW Championship while also being one swing away from not qualifying for the Tour Championship. The 42-year-old also stands at 10 under and headlines those players vying to creep inside the crucial top-30 cutoff point by tournament’s end.
