{"id":53128,"date":"2022-08-22T20:02:59","date_gmt":"2022-08-22T20:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/tom-mccarthy-john-kruk-give-sad-calls-of-mets-homers\/"},"modified":"2022-08-22T20:02:59","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T20:02:59","slug":"tom-mccarthy-john-kruk-give-sad-calls-of-mets-homers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/tom-mccarthy-john-kruk-give-sad-calls-of-mets-homers\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom McCarthy, John Kruk Give Sad Calls of Mets Homers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"post-body\">\n<p>The hometown broadcasters for the Philadelphia Phillies sounded nothing short of despondent Sunday after the New York Mets cranked a pair of 9th inning homers to cap a dramatic comeback.<\/p>\n<p>Calling the action for NBC Sports Philadelphia, play-by-play man <strong>Tom McCarthy<\/strong> and analyst <strong>John Kruk<\/strong> were utterly dejected after the Mets outfielder <strong>Mark Canha<\/strong> blasted his second home run of the game into the left field seats at Citizens Bank Park to put the Mets on top of the Phillies 9-8.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFly ball, left field,\u201d a monotone McCarthy said.  \u201cOh no.  He&#8217;s homered again \u2026 wow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Phillies&#8217; misery was compounded when Mets centerfielder <strong>Brandon Nimmo<\/strong> hit a home run of his own to expand the Mets lead to 10-8.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh man,\u201d a disgusted McCarthy said, as soon as Nimmo made contact.  \u201cBrandon Nimmo&#8217;s just added some insurance.  Solo home run.  10-8.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy sounded morose \u2014 as though he was a doctor delivering seriously bad news to a patient.  But Kruk, a former Phillies star, was more angry.  Ultimately, though, he decided to keep his temper in check.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;d like to say something, but I&#8217;m afraid,\u201d Kruk said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive yourself five seconds,\u201d McCarthy told his partner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNah, I need more than that.  I&#8217;m afraid that this would be my last broadcast.  So I&#8217;m gonna\u2026 just\u2026 \u201dKruk said \u2014 his words trailing off.<\/p>\n<p>C&#8217;mon fellas, lighten up!  It&#8217;s only a game.  (Disclosure: The author of this post is a rabid Mets fan who undoubtedly would feel quite differently if the shoe were on the other foot.
