Celebrated chef David Kinch is tying loose ends at his three Michelin-starred restaurant, Manresa, before his pending departure at the end of the year. <\/p>\n

Kinch made the announcement in a lengthy Instagram post on Monday, indicating that his last day is Dec. 31 at the Los Gatos restaurant. Bloomberg first reported the news on Kinch’s leave. <\/p>\n

\u201cManresa has essentially been my whole life for the past 20 years,\u201d Kinch wrote on Instagram. \u201cAnd like all passion projects, it has been more challenging and more rewarding than I could have imagined.\u201d<\/p>\n

Partner Jenny Yun is expected to take over the reins on Jan. 1, 2021, in Kinch’s absence, according to an Instagram post shared by the restaurant. Moreover, the post suggested that Kinch may continue to collaborate with Manresa in some capacity. SFGATE reached out for comment but did not hear back by publication.<\/p>\n

The chef-owner told Bloomberg that he worries about the future of fine dining restaurants. Kinch believes fine dining establishments are headed in the direction of high-end counter restaurants with tasting menus starting at $450 per person, Bloomberg reports. (Manresa currently offers a tasting menu of $365 per guest.) In addition to a price hike, Kinch said that he anticipates that fine dining restaurants will continue to be more exclusive.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the wage gap continues to increase, all this democratization that’s gone on in last 20 years,\u201d Kinch told Bloomberg.<\/p>\n
