{"id":54170,"date":"2022-08-23T20:07:01","date_gmt":"2022-08-23T20:07:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/packers-trade-cole-van-lanen-as-they-trim-roster-in-latest-transaction\/"},"modified":"2022-08-23T20:07:01","modified_gmt":"2022-08-23T20:07:01","slug":"packers-trade-cole-van-lanen-as-they-trim-roster-in-latest-transaction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harchi90.com\/packers-trade-cole-van-lanen-as-they-trim-roster-in-latest-transaction\/","title":{"rendered":"Packers trade Cole Van Lanen as they trim roster in latest transaction"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure class=\"gnt_em gnt_em__fp gnt_em_img\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">GREEN BAY \u2014 The Green Bay Packers have traded offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen to the Jacksonville Jaguars for an undisclosed draft pick, released safety Vernon Scott and placed running back Kylin Hill on the reserve\/physically unable to perform list Tuesday, according to a source<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The three moves reduced the Packers&#8217; roster to the league-mandated 80-player limit that must be met later in the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Van Lanen, one of the more versatile offensive linemen for the Packers, will get a better chance to play in Jacksonville than he would in Green Bay.  He was not in competition for a starting job but he had worked at every position on the offensive line except center, so the Jaguars will be able to plug him where needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Packers drafted the Bay Port High School and University of Wisconsin lineman in the sixth-round of the 2021 draft and, after releasing him at the end of training camp, signed him to the practice squad.  He played in one regular-season game as a COVID-19 replacement.<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cCole came into the room and said his goodbyes,\u201d rookie tackle Caleb Jones said.  \u201cWe all really love Cole.  He&#8217;s a great guy, even before football or anything else.  He&#8217;s just a great human being.  I&#8217;m happy to see him get an opportunity somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">ESPN.com was the first to report that Van Lanen had been traded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Scott, meanwhile, injured his pec against the New Orleans Saints on Friday and the early prognosis was that he would be sidelined for a considerable time.  The Packers will negotiate an injury settlement with him, which will allow him to become a free agent and give the Packers a chance to re-sign him later in the season.<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Scott was competing for the No.  3 position at safety behind starters Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage and was considered a solid special-teams player.  The 2020 seventh-round draft choice played in 15 games as a rookie but appeared in just three last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">With Scott gone, Shawn Davis and Dallin Leavitt have the inside track for the No.  3 spot, although Leavitt is recovering from a shoulder injury and the coaches began using cornerback Rasul Douglas at safety in certain situations in practice Tuesday.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_em gnt_em_anc\" id=\"gnt_atomsnc\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-method=\"loadAnc\" aria-label=\"Newsletter signup form\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Packers also like Innis Gaines, who is listed as a safety but has been working as a slot cornerback mostly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The decision to keep Hill on PUP wasn&#8217;t a huge surprise given he was less than 10 months removed from tearing the ACL in his right knee.  The Packers were very high on Hill and had been using him as a kickoff returner when he got hurt last season.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_em gnt_em_fo__bet-best\" aria-label=\"Scores and odds from Tipico\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-type=\"comment\"><!--@pre<iframe class=gnt_em_fo_if src=\"\/tangfrag\/sports\/gaming\/bet-best?prm-embedded&prm-teamid=659&prm-gnteamid=17&prm-league=NFL#fhp-assetid=7872496001\" loading=lazy sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox allow-forms\" title=\"Scores and odds from Tipico\"><\/iframe>--><\/aside>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Hill said general manager Brian Gutekunst told him about the decision and he understood why it was made.  He said he feels he is running and cutting and making good progress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cI&#8217;m feeling great,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Hill will be ineligible to play for the first four games of the season and won&#8217;t count against the 53-man roster.
