Nick Saban said in a statement Tuesday he looks forward \u201cto finishing our career at Alabama\u201d just hours it was reported the Alabama coach got a new eight-year contract worth at least $93.6 million.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur family is very happy to agree to a contract extension with The University of Alabama,\u201d Saban said in a statement. \u201cTerry and I are very appreciative of the unmatched commitment the University has shown to this football program and our family over the last 15-plus years. This is our home, and we look forward to finishing our career at Alabama.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’ve said this before, but the most fulfilling part of our job is seeing the players that represent our program grow and develop, not only in football, but more importantly in what they have been able to accomplish in their lives because of their involvement in our program. We want to thank the Board of Trustees, Chancellor St. John, President Bell, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, our athletics administration, the football staff and the whole University community for their support.\u201d<\/p>\n
The deal surpasses Kirby Smart’s contract numbers at Georgia. The announcement comes a month after Smart agreed to a 10-year deal worth more than $110 million.<\/p>\n
Alabama trustees compensation committee on Tuesday approved a one-year extension through Feb. 28, 2030 for Saban, 70, who has led the Crimson Tide to six national titles. <\/p>\n
Saban’s deal averages out to $11.7 million per year, topping Smart’s $11.25 million share at defending national champion Georgia.<\/p>\n
In other news Tuesday, Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne’s new contract was approved along with deals for three coaches.<\/p>\n
