Florida A&M will be without 20 players due to NCAA eligibility issues for Saturday’s season opener against North Carolina and would only have eight eligible offensive linemen for the game, The Athletic’s Chris Vannini confirmed Friday. The news was first reported by ABC 27’s Alison Posey.

The Athletic also confirmed that the game was still scheduled to be played despite the eligibility issues.

The Rattlers players not making the trip are facing a variety of academic and transfer eligibility issues, Florida A&M head coach Willie Simmons told Posey.

Best bite to sum up today from HC Willie Simmons: “The responsibility ultimately falls on the student athlete, but without support, it is really, really hard to juggle all they have to juggle and still maintain satisfactory academic progress & still compete at the highest level.”

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Sept. 17, but in August 2021, both schools agreed to move the game up to Week 0. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 pm ET on ACC Network.
