The Spartans are back, folks, and you better have your rosters handy as we embark on the 2022 season. Michigan State’s opener, a 35-13 triumph over Western Michigan, was a night dominated by newcomers.

Freshman wideout Germie Bernard set the stage with a 44-yard catch-and-run touchdown on his first career reception. Transfer defensive end Jacoby Windmon was the MVP of the evening, recording four sacks. Transfer tight end Daniel Barker had a touchdown grab. The transfer running back tandem of Jalen Berger and Jarek Broussard looks like it can be fruitful. A few true freshmen even got in the mix, including kicker Jack Stone, safety Jaden Mangham, receiver Tyrell Henry and defensive end Zion Young.

Unfortunately for MSU, it lost some well-known names to injury in safety Xavier Henderson and linebacker Darius Snow. Head coach Mel Tucker did not have any update on their status in the immediate aftermath.
