11:30, 4Q – The defense has been phenomenal. Traevon Kenion then blocks a punt, and Ahmarean Brown returns it for a touchdown. That should just about put the game away. Carolina 35 – Georgia State 14

END 3Q – Spencer Rattler made a bad decision on third-and-short trying to force a pass to Antwane Wells, and the ball was picked off. Georgia State takes over at their own 38-yard line. Carolina 28 – Georgia State 14

5:13, 3Q – This game has turned quickly. After another defensive stop, Rashad Amos blocks a punt and DQ Smith scoops and scores. It’s the first time the Gamecocks have returned a blocked pun for a touchdown since Derek Watson did so against Florida in 2000. Two-point conversion is good as Jaheim Bell plows up the middle. Carolina 28 – Georgia State 14

7:20, 3Q – Georgia State takes advantage as Grainger rushes for a touchdown to put his team on top 14-12. But Carolina comes right back and scores, getting the ball in the hands of its playmakers. Jaheim Bell and MarShawn Lloyd were the focus, and Lloyd catches a touchdown pass. Rattler with a two-point conversion to put Carolina on top by six. Carolina 20 – Georgia State 14

14:14, 3Q – Spencer Rattler’s high pass to Ahmarean Brown hits off his hands and goes for an interception. Georgia State takes over at the USC 32-yard line. Carolina 12 – Georgia State 7

Mitch Jeter’s 53-yard field goal, the first of his career, is the seventh-longest in #gamecocks history. Nice start.

Carolina up 9-0, 6:12 left in the first half.

10:03, 2Q – South Carolina’s defense forced another three-and-out, which was its third straight, but the Gamecocks went three-and-out as well after a holding call negated a first down scramble by Spencer Rattler, then Josh Vann dropped an open pass. Kroeger boots a ho-hum 79-yard punt, though. Carolina 6 – Georgia State 0

13:38, 2Q – South Carolina was fourth-and-5 and lined up for a field goal with Mitch Jeter. But it was a fake and Hunter Rodgers ran just far enough to get a first down. After a 15-yard facemask on first down, MarShawn Lloyd took a pitch into the end zone just inside the pylon for the first score of the game. Bad snap on the extra point keeps it Carolina leads 6-0

END 1Q – No score for either side. South Carolina is facing a third-and-15 from the 17-yard line. Vershon Lee missed a block, causing run play to get blown up in the backfield. A corner blitz eventually got to Rattler on the next play, too. no score

2:22, 1Q – Anyone who had a defensive battle is right. South Carolina forces a pair of punts, so Georgia State has three drives with no points. Kroeger has been called upon twice now. The Gamecocks finally got a little something going with Spencer Rattler scrambling and finding Jalen Brooks deep as he makes a diving catch at the 30-yard line of Georgia State. no score

7:32, 1Q – Both teams have had possessions, and neither came away with points. Georgia State drove the ball into the South Carolina red zone, thanks in large part to a 41-yard scamper up the middle by Jamyest Williams. But the Gamecocks held firm on a fourth-and-2 attempt with Nick Emmanwori, in the game in place of an injured RJ Roderick, making the stop and driving back the GSU running back. Spencer Rattler hit on his first pass of the game, a 15-yard completion to MarShawn Lloyd, but when the Gamecocks got out to midfield, he misfired on two passes and the Gamecocks punted it away. Kai Kroeger had the punt. no score
