Heavy rain caused multiple leaks inside the Geraldo Magalh\u00e3es Sports Gymnasium, prompting officials to determine that the game could not be resumed safely.<\/p>\n<p>Several hours after the game was stopped, FIBA \u200b\u200bsaid the matchup was &#8220;postponed due to technical difficulties in the arena. The resolution of the game will be communicated within the next few hours, in which a rescheduled date and time will be announced.&#8221;<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline editorial float-r\" data-behavior=\"article_related\">\n<ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/a.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=\/photo\/2022\/0904\/r1057254_1296x1296_1-1.jpg&amp;w=130&amp;h=130&amp;scale=crop&amp;location=center\" width=\"65\" height=\"65\"\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1 Related<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Venezuela and the US both have their final group-stage games scheduled for Monday.<\/p>\n<p>FIBA allowed a later game Sunday at the same arena between the Dominican Republic against the Virgin Islands to begin as scheduled and said a late game between Argentina against Puerto Rico would be played as planned.<\/p>\n<p>The Venezuela game is crucial for the US, which entered Group C play Sunday with an 0-1 mark after falling to Mexico in Friday&#8217;s opener.  The Americans will need at least one win in their three group games, and possibly two victories, to make the quarterfinal round that starts later this week.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico (2-0) clinched a quarterfinal berth earlier Sunday by topping Panama (0-2).<\/p>\n<p>The Americans gave up the game&#8217;s first basket then went on an 18-2 run and only kept adding to the lead.
